On the Mac team, we’re bringing in a new product manager starting this coming Monday,' said Quicken head Eric Dunn. 'We have plans within the calendar year to double the engineering team, so we can do the work we need to do to bring Mac closer to the feature set of Windows over the next quarters and years.' Quicken is the most popular personal finance software in the United States, but the Mac version has historically been lacking compared to its Windows counterpart. Dunn is confident that the software 'will thrive with increased investment' and 'become great again' under the new investment group's leadership. My team and I know you count on Quicken to help you stay on top of your finances, and we are committed to continuing to improve your experience with Quicken. We’ve already started the journey with the new Quicken 2016 products that launched in November with new features to help consumers stay on top of their bills.

OS: Mac OS X (Macintosh) HD Pro Webcam c910 Full Software and Driver for Mac OS 10.5, 10.6.x. I really hate having to buy new macs every few years. Between the machines and the software it is a big investment and a whole lot of time setting things up and learning how to use it. I usually keep my macs as long as I can. My only problem now is the browsers. Firefox, Chrome and Safari don't seems to want to support 10.5.8. At least FF and Safari run but there are some sites I visit that don't work well with those old versions and the new versions can't be installed on 10.5.8. Any suggestions on a browser that will let my macs live a little longer? Sorry - I assumed that you had to stay with 10.5.8. The usual reason is when using a PowerPC Mac, such as a G4 or G5 Mac. Those cannot be upgraded to any newer OS X version That solution that I posted, with the PPC version of a nice web browser, is designed for those that want, or need to stay with PPC versions. Download old versions of Google Chrome for Mac. Google Chrome icon. Google Chrome. Google's new browser is now available for Mac. Previous versions. A Chrome 5 on Mac OS X (Leopard) user agent. You would be better served if you upgrade your OS X, as you will have a lot of other options. Is there a particular reason that you have chosen not to upgrade your operating system? Can you tell me a couple of things? What Mac do you have, and how much RAM memory is installed? You can make sure about that by going to the Apple menu, then About This Mac. That window will show processor speed and memory installed (plus a couple of other items), Then, click on the More Info button. That will bring up the System Profiler, where you can look at the hardware configuration (Hardware Overview) What is listed next to Model Identifier? (should be something like iMac9,1 - but I need to know what your iMac shows) A Core 2 Duo iMac can be upgraded to Lion (OS X 10.7.5) as a minimum. A newer Core 2 Duo can even be upgraded to 10.11.3, depending on what you have - although you may not want, or need to do that - it is still an option for you But, I need to know which iMac you have, and the System Profiler will tell me everything relevant about possible upgrades for your iMac. The main reason I ask about this, is that an operating system upgrade will provide newer versions of Safari, and you will have the opportunity to use other, more up-to-date web browsers that you might prefer, and the upgrade should let your browsing experience improve, hopefully, with better security, too. Thank you for the detailed reply. Here is the info you requested: Model Name: iMac Model Identifier: iMac9,1 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache: 6 MB Memory: 2 GB Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz Boot ROM Version: IM91.008D.B08 SMC Version (system): 1.44f0 You asked if there was a reason I did not want to upgrade. Actually there is. Software compatibility. I would prefer not to have to buy new software or expensive upgrades, especially those applications that now only give you one-year licenses. Here is a list of some of them I have: PS Elements 6 Illustrator CS4 4th Dimension (an expensive database program) MS Office 2008 (license does not expire after one year) Text Wrangler Thank you! Text Wrangler is free software - maybe you meant some other name. MS Office 2008 SHOULD continue working, even if you go to most recent OS X. You may not be able to reinstall Office 2008, in latest OS X version, not sure about that. But, if you simply upgrade, it should be OK. Even Office 2004, can go to OS X 10.6 And, Office 2011 license does not expire, unless you need to enable the Office 365 subscription. I am not sure if you can still purchase the stand-alone Office 2011, but the Office 2016 can be purchased as stand alone, too.(no subscription either) 4D is one that I don't know about (at least since I last used it more than 20 years ago ) Adobe stuff - yeah, that can be fun. No chance of going to CS6, I suppose? You have 10.5.8 now. If you want to try an upgrade to Lion, there's two methods to get there (assuming that you don't already have any newer OS X installers, and have not purchased any) You have to purchase Lion, which you can get at the Apple online store from. But, the purchase will give you a redemption code that you use in your App Store. You need a Mac that has an App Store, which means that you have to upgrade to Snow Leopard first, then fully update to 10.6.8 (as the installer by itself does not have the App Store, you have to install, then update through Software Update. If you don't have Snow Leopard, you will need to purchase that installer DVD, which you can get. THEN, with Snow Leopard, you have the App Store, where you download and then install Lion. As a.NET developer, I’ve spent most of my time coding on Windows machines. It’s only logical: Visual Studio is the richest development experience for building C# and VB.NET applications, and it only runs on Windowsright? When I joined Stormpath to work on our, I was handed a MacBook Pro and given an interesting challenge: can a Mac be an awesome.NET development platform? To my surprise, the answer is yes! I’ll share how I turned a MacBook Pro into the ultimate Visual Studio development machine. How to Run Visual Studio on a Mac Visual Studio doesn’t run natively on OS X, so my first step was to get Windows running on my MacBook Pro. (If you want an editor that does run natively, or might fit the bill). There are multiple options for running Windows on a Mac. Every Mac comes with Apple’s Boot Camp software, which helps you install Windows into a separate partition. To switch between OSes, you need to restart. Is a different animal: it runs Windows (or another guest OS) inside a virtual machine. This is convenient because you don’t have to restart your computer to switch over to Windows. Instead, Windows runs in an OS X application window. I found that a combination of both worked best for me. I installed Windows into a Boot Camp partition first, and then turned that partition into an active Parallels virtual machine. This way, I have the option of using Windows in the virtual machine, or restarting to run Windows natively at full speed. I was initially skeptical of the performance of a heavy application like Visual Studio running in a virtual machine. The option to restart to Windows via Boot Camp gave me a fallback in case Visual Studio was sluggish. There are some minor disadvantages to this method: you can’t pause the virtual machine or save it to a snapshot. A non-Boot Camp virtual machine doesn’t have these limitations. This guide will work regardless of what type of virtual machine you create. After three months of serious use, and some tweaks, I’ve been very impressed with Parallels’ performance. I haven’t needed to boot directly to Windows at all. (For comparison, my host machine is a 15” mid-2015 MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB flash drive.) In the remainder of this guide, I’ll detail the steps I took to optimize both Parallels and Visual Studio to run at peak performance. Installing Windows With Boot Camp and Parallels This part’s easy. I followed to install Windows in a separate partition. Then, I installed Parallels and followed the to create a new virtual machine from the existing Boot Camp partition. Tweaking Parallels for Performance and Usability The Parallels team publishes on how to maximize the performance of your virtual machine. Here’s what I adopted: Virtual machine settings: • 2 virtual CPUs • 4096MB system memory • 256MB graphics memory Parallels options: • Optimization: Faster virtual machine, Adaptive hypervisor, Tune Windows for speed all turned on. • Sharing: Shared cloud, SmartMount, and Access Windows folders from Mac turned off, as I didn’t need these for my workflow. I experimented with both of Parallels’ presentation modes, Coherence and Full Screen. While it was cool to see my Windows apps side-by-side with OS X in Coherence mode, I found that the UI responsiveness (especially opening and closing windows and dialogs) felt sluggish. Because of this, I use Full Screen exclusively now. I have Windows full-screen on my external Thunderbolt display, and OS X on my laptop. If I need to use OS X on my large monitor, I can swipe the Magic Mouse to switch desktops. Adjusting OS X and Windows Features I fixed a few annoyances and performance drains right off the bat: • Function keys. If you’re using the Mac keyboard, you’ll want to change the function key behavior so the F1-F12 keys work correctly in Visual Studio. From System Preferences – Keyboard, make sure Use all F1, F2, etc. Keys as standard function keys is checked. With this turned on, hold Fn to use the Mac functions (brightness, volume, etc.) on F1-F12. With an external non-Mac keyboard, this isn’t an issue. • Start menu. I’m using Windows 8, and the removal of the Start menu annoyed me. A professional audio workstation. Create, mix, and design sound effects with the industry’s best digital audio editing software. They can connect you with a prescreened, top-rated local agent, and they’ll work with you to ensure you’re completely satisfied with the home buying process. That’s interesting, in a kind of weird way. It seems that they consider “Home and Business” to be your *membership level* and not the actual software product. I assume there is only a single software application for the Mac, and the membership level determines if there are features you don’t have access to. There’s little or no difference between Deluxe and Premier at this point, and the limitations on Starter could simply be handled by the software. This makes it much simpler to develop and fix bugs when there’s only a single codebase they work on (which was a driving reason behind the switch to subscriptions). |
